VIAJES 2010 / 2010 TRIPS

Es dificil hacer un ranking de los viajes pues cada lugar tiene su encanto particular. Por tal razon he puesto mis viajes en orden cronologico comenzando por el mas reciente.

It is difficult to rank trips since each place has its own charm. For this reason I organized them in chronological order starting with the most recent one.

Lisbon, Portugal – Como comenzar a describir esta visita? Lisboa es una ciudad hermosa, con uno de los mejores climas de Europa, con gente amable y con una historia milenaria. Para los amantes del bacalao Portugal es el pais a visitar, a pesar de que Portugal significa naranja y no bacalao; es tan abundante y lo cocinan de todas las formas posibles. Fatima es el santuario con mayor energia positiva de los que he visitado. El Monasterio de los Jeronimos en Belem mas los pasteles de nata de la Antigua Pasteleria definitivamente valen la pena. No podemos olvidarnos de Sintra, Obidos, Nazare, Alcobaca y Batalha, todas ciudades cerca de Lisboa y cada una con su atractivo particular.
How to begin to describe this visit? Lisbon is a beautiful city with one of the best weathers in Europe, with nice people and with a milenarian history. For the cod lovers, Portugal is the place to be, although Portugal means orange and not cod; it is so abundant and they cook it in many different ways. Fatima is the sanctuary with the most positive energy among the ones I have visited. San Jeronimo monastery plus cream cakes in Belem are definitely worth the visit. We cannot forget Sintra, Obidos, Nazare, Alcobaca and Batalha, all close to Lisbon and with their particular attraction.

Puerto Rico – Ya perdi la cuenta de las veces que he estado en Puerto Rico. Esta vez tuve la oportunidad de ir al centro de la isla en las montanas a un pueblo que se llama Barranquita. Aunque no lo crean hace frio. De las cosas que mas disfruto en Puerto Rico es pasear en Viejo San Juan y comer mofongo en Raices.
I lost count of how many times I have been in Puerto Rico. This time I had the opportunity to visit a small town, Barranquitas, that is in the center of the island in the mountains. Believe it or not it’s cold there. Of the things I enjoy the most in PR is to stroll in Old San Juan and eat mofongo in Raices.

Los Angeles – Fue mi segunda visita a Los Angeles. Esta vez fui a Palm Springs que esta a dos horas al este de LA. Por primera vez en mi vida hice hiking y me encanto.
It was my second time in Los Angeles. This time I went to Palm Springs that is approximately two hours east of LA. For the first time in my life and hiked and loved it.

Sao Paulo & Rio de Janeiro, Brazil – Fue mi tercera vez en Sao Paulo y la primera vez en Rio de Janeiro. En Sao Paulo conoci lugares que no habia visitado antes como el Museo da Lingua Portuguesa que, contrariamente a lo que pueda pensarse resulto muy divertido y enriquecedor, y la Pinacoteca. La comida es espectacular especialmente la carne, la pasta y la pizza. En Rio de Janeiro hice todas las paradas turisticas: Cristo, Maracana, Pao de Acucar, Sambodromo.
It was my third time in Sao Paulo and first time in Rio de Janeiro. In Sao Paulo I visited places for the first time like the Portuguese language museum that was amusing, and Pinacoteca. Food is excellent especially meat, pasta, and pizza. In Rio de Janeiro I did all the touristy things: Christ, Maracana, Sugar Loaf, Sambodromo.

Bogota, Colombia – Bogota era una de las ciudades que tenia en mi lista para conocer. Bogota tiene todas las ventajas de una ciudad grande con el charm de una ciudad pequeña. No es posible aburrirse y hay tantos restaurantes que dos semanas (que fue lo que estuve) no fue suficiente para probar todos. La Candelaria es muy linda y el Museo del Oro incomparable. Adicionalmente, cerca de Bogota hay sitios maravillosos como la Laguna de Guatavita, Chiquinquira y Villa de Leyva.
Bogota was one of the cities that I had in my list of places to visit. Bogota has all the advantages of a big city with the charm of a small city. It is not possible to get bored and there are so many restaurants that two weeks (that’s the time I spent there) is not enough to try all of them. La Candelaria is beautiful and the Gold Museum unparalleled. In addition, there are marvelous places close to Bogota such as Guatavita Lake, Chiquinquira and Villa de Leyva.

Chicago – Uno de los mejores viajes fue el de Chicago. La ciudad es una de las mas lindas en EE UU y ahora mismo compite entre mis favoritas. En el verano hay un monton de cosas para hacer y la gente aprovecha las actividades al maximo aun cuando llueve. Millenium Park, Chicago Cultural Center, arte en la calle, tour arquitectonico, son actividades que no pueden perderse.
One of the best trips was the one to Chicago. This is one of the most beautiful cities in the US and is now competing among my favorites. In the summer there are plenty of activities and people take advantage of the good weather even if it rains. Millenium Park, Chicago Cultural Center, street art, architectural tour are all activities that you can’t miss.

Washington DC – Este año tuve la oportunidad de estar en la capital de los Estados Unidos para el 4 de julio dia de la Independencia. En el verano las temperaturas son record con marcaciones hasta los 100 F (35 C). El 4 de julio todo el mundo va al Mall a esperar los fuegos artificiales. Lo mejor de Washington DC son los museos especialmente el de Historia Natural.
This year I had the opportunity to be in the US capital for the 4th of July. In the summer there are record temperatures of up to 100 F. 4th of July everybody goes to the Mall to wait for the fireworks. The best part of DC is the museums specially Natural History.

Costa Rica – No hay mucho que pueda decir de Costa Rica que no todo el mundo conozca. Este es un pais para los amantes de la naturaleza. Canopy en Arenal y paseo en Poas son de las paradas obligatorias con una pausa para el gallopinto.
There is not much I can say about Costa Rica that nobody knows already. Ziplining in Arenal and hiking in Poas are a must with a pause for gallopinto (rice and red beans).

El Salvador – Tengo una relación especial con El Salvador. Lo mejor del país es la gente. Los salvadoreños son amables, sencillos, abiertos y con un gran espiritu para la fiesta (tanto o mas como los caribenos). A pesar de no tener tanta publicidad internacional, en El Salvador hay lugares hermosos como Ataco, La Palma, Apaneca, la Costa del Sol, entre otros. Ah! Y no podemos olvidar la comida. Es obligatorio el cebiche, las conchas, casamiento (arroz y frijoles negros) y las pupusas.
I have a very special relationship with El Salvador. The best part of the country is the people. Salvadorians are nice, humble, open and with great disposition to party (as much as Caribbeans do). Eventhough El Salvador does not have much international publicity, there are beautiful places such as Ataco, La Palma, Apaneca, and Costa del Sol among others. And the food! Musts are cebiche, conchas, casamiento (black beans and rice) and pupusas.

Guatemala – En mi opinion Guatemala es el unico pais en Centroamerica que tiene un poco de todo: arqueologia, arte nativo, naturaleza, arquitectura colonial. De los lugares obligatorios para visitar están Antigua, Atitlan y si hay mas tiempo, Tikal.
In my opinion, Guatemala is the only country in Central America that has everything: archeology, native art, nature, colonial architecture. You can’t miss Antigua, Atitlan, and if there is time, Tikal.

Montreal, Canada – Para mi es dificil ser objetiva cuando se trata de Montreal. Es mi ciudad favorita en Norte America. No se puede dejar de visitar Notre Dame, la Biosphere, Vieux-Montreal, Centreville, Oratoire St Joseph, le Jardin Botanique, le Quartier Latin… Todo es lindo en Montreal. Es un placer caminar por las calles (aun en invierno) y la ‘ciudad subterranea’ es un gran alivio cuando las temperaturas son extremas.
It’s difficult for me to be objective about Montreal. It’s my favorite city in North America. You can’t miss Notre Dame, la Biosphere, Old Montreal, Downtown, St Joseph, Botanical Garden, Quartier Latin… everything is beautiful there. It’s nice to walk on the streets (even in the winter) and the ‘underground city’ is very convenient in extreme temperatures.

Punta Cana, Dominican Republic – Que se puede pedir de una de las mas bellas playas del Caribe? Punta Cana lo tiene todo para el que quiere relajarse: arena, sol, mar azul, buenos restaurantes, buenos hoteles y lugares de belleza natural incomparables.
What can be expected from one of the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean? Punta Cana has it all: sand, sun, blue sea, good restaurants, good hotels and nature.

Caracas, Venezuela – En estos momentos Caracas no es la ciudad mas segura para turistas (ni para locales) por lo que fue dificil conocerla. El Avila definitivamente vale la pena.
Currently, Caracas is not very safe for turists (or locals) so it was difficult to visit. The Avila is definitely worth it.
