HARRY POTTER

Recently, I decided that I wanted to read all seven Harry Potter books back to back. I enjoyed the books very much; however, I have to say it is almost a marathon due to all the information and details.

The first two books were lighter than the rest; the stories were not complicated, the characters (and the writer) were young so life was relatively easy. With the third book one can start to appreciate the many complexities in the characters, life as a wizard or witch and the writer’s growth.

The books that I enjoyed the most were The Goblet of Fire, The Order of the Phoenix, and the Half-Blood Prince. These three stories touched me very deeply and at very different levels. With the introduction of Dolores Umbridge I found in me the urge to hit someone in the face and how much I hate hypocrites. I fell in love with Dumbledore’s Pensieve in the Half-Blood Prince, and I thought it was the most wonderful invention. I wish I could have one. The closest that I have are my journals but they only have my thoughts there. Imagine seeing other people’s memories as if you were living them. The Three Wizard Tournament, in The Goblet of Fire, was the beginning of the direct battle against Voldemort.

All Harry Potter books have much more than just simple entertainment, and I believe they speak differently to each of us depending on the way we see life and the specific state of mind that we have at the moment. I got lost in the characters lives even as I knew the end in each story. Although the details are so many that I had forgotten important events so I was able to relive the experience as if it was the first time I was reading them.

With all due respect to the experts in Literature, I think Harry Potter will be studied as one of the classics of the 21st Century similar to the fantastic tales that we had to study some of which did not have any deepness of thought in their stories.
